A very widespread tree In the Pacific Northwest of North America. ‘plicata’ is Latin for ‘folded in plaits’ in reference to the pattern of its small leaves. The timber has a high resistance to decay so is often used for outdoor construction including cladding for houses. A widely used tree by Native Americans for thousands of years: utensils, canoes, houses and the bark for rope, clothing etc.
