83 Morinda spruce Picea smithiana

Family: Pinaceae

A Native of North Afghanistan and Nepal, usually growing at altitudes of around 3000m. Can grow to about 50m and because of its conical shape and attractive pendulous branches is used a garden ornamental tree ( when it is young !). Has a large green cone. There is a more mature tree near the children’s railway further up the park which is a Whanganui protected tree.
