80 Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens

Family: Cupressaceae

The sequoia is the tallest living thing on earth reaching up to 115 metres in height. Found in Coastal California and Southern Oregon, it commonly reaches ages of nearly 2000 years which makes it also one of the longest living things on Earth. The soft bark can be 30 cm thick. A very valuable timber species has resulted in most natural areas being logged out. However it is relatively quick growing which accounts for the large examples found in this park.
