This South African tree is related to the NZ podocarps like Rimu and Totara. This reflects the time long ago when when both present day NZ and Africa were all part of the same continent Gondwana land. Because of its attractive shape it has become a popular garden tree. The yellowwoods are protected trees in South Africa with the Broad-leaved yellowwood being South Africa’s national tree.
