24 Pin Oak Quercus palustris

Family: Fagaceae

The pin oak is one of the American red oaks. These oaks all have heavily lobed leaves but the Pin oak has the deepest lobes of all. Called the ‘pin’ oak because of the dead branches often protruding from the lower trunk. Often used for landscaping, it is relatively quick growing and short lived ( 120yrs) compared with other oaks. And unlike other oaks the wood is not useful for timber.
